Women Empowerment and Gender Equality (WEGE) billCause For Justice was one of many organisations that made submissions to parliament on the Women Empowerment and Gender Equality (WEGE) bill.
What is WEGE?
WEGE is proposed legislation aimed at empowering women and promoting gender equality. It proposes the introduction of a compulsory 50% quota for women’s representation in leadership of public and private institutions and in economic empowerment targets.
It also proposes to compel public and private institutions to provide reproductive healthcare to female employees.

UPDATE: CFJ statement:
“More than a year after Cause for Justice intervened/participated in the legislative process, citing the unconstitutionality of arbitrary legislation, sanity has prevailed.
The state has acknowledged, to some extent, the error in their ways and have closed the door on this well-meaning but ill-informed attempt to act in the best interest of the women of South Africa.”
